Stroke then pregnant, #1

One year after my stroke, I found out I was pregnant!

I wasn't supposed to have kids. At the time, I was married almost 9 years and was happy being a fur-mama. We had an English Mastiff named Romulus, he was my baby. When I found out I was pregnant, I was in disbelief!

At first, I thought my stroke was messing with me, so I decided to take a pregnancy test. IT WAS POSITIVE! At the doctor's office, I was asked by the nurse if I had taken any pregnancy tests, I told her yes, 5, and they were all positive. She said, "yep, you're pregnant." I was still shocked, so I waited for the doc. To my complete surprise I found out I was really pregnant, but it was early on, and there was always the unknown.

Due to my stroke, I was considered "high risk" which meant two things, I had to find a different OBGYN because my current doctor practiced at a level I hospital, no NICU, and I had to go a "high risk" doctor for monitoring. Finding a new doctor was stressful because of my stroke; I had no idea it would be so difficult, ugh. After being denied numerous times because of my "risk" level, I finally found one that would take me. Turns out I was lucky because the new doctor was near the hospital that diagnosed my stroke, and two of my doctors previously used her services!

I had to stop all meds for the stroke and start a new medicine regiment. Even though I was considered very high risk due to my recent stroke, I had a great team that coordinated! I loved the extra TLC, and the close monitoring helped with my nerves.
